Because She Likes Me...

So when I went to pick Easton up from school today, he came walking out holding a girls hand..... I was a little bit shocked, I haven't ever even seen this girl before. So a little while after we got home, I asked him about it...

Me: Easton, who was that little girl you were with?
Easton: (Really embarrassed) I don't know....
Me: Yes you do, what was her name?
Easton: I don't remember... (truthfully)
Me: Why were you holding her hand?
Easton: (Trying to hide his embarrassed little face behind my arm) Because she likes me..

I don't know why it is bothering me, I know he is little, and that it doesn't mean anything, but I don't want him to think that because someone likes him he needs to hold their hand.... What if they ask him to kiss them? Laugh all you want, underneath I am kind of laughing.... But it is really bothering me... I am thinking just a tiny little talk will work, make it no big deal...
What do you think?
Is this something that has happened to any of you? And if it has, did you have a little talk with them, or did you just let it go?

Aww, that is so sweet. I do understand the whole wanting to think its funny, but feeling like it's not ok. There is a girl in our ward that is Kimball's age and at our ward campout they were walking around holding hands. When I asked him about it he said, "She is my friend" He was embarrassed too, but I didn't talk to him any more than that. She is in his class at school too though, so I don't know. I wish I could be a little mouse in the corner!

I can understand the wanting to laugh (it IS really cute), but being concerned, too. My boys haven't had any really close girl friends except one, but we have talked about holding hands, and kissing. Just a year and a half ago or so, we actually had THE talk with the older boys and they were (surprisingly, for me) mature about it all.

They've since asked questions that we've answered honestly, and if it's something they don't need to know, we tell them that. In a few years, that's something we can discuss more.

It's probably just more that they're friends and holding hands, and not that they're boyfriend/girlfriend holding hands, but if you're concerned go ahead and talk about it and about dating and how the prophets have asked us to not date (or hold hands, or kiss, or anything else you might not want him to do! . . .) until we're 16 or older.

Wow, that got long! Sorry. I hope it helped!

I don't think its anything you need to worry about at this age, it is just a friendship he would probally hold a little boys hands too. It will pass at this age. I had a child that liked to play kiss tag with the neighborhood kids before they were even five, they never really did kiss just run after each other. At that age its all just friendship. Wait a few years for a talk.

It's innocent! Give it about two years and girls will have cooties!
Seriously!
That's what happens. Questen kind of liked a girl in kindergarten and now he thinks girls should stay away!

I don't think a small little easy talk will hurt.... but it really is innocent and cute. They all go through it in kindergarten... in a few years, girls will have cooties and then you wont need to talk till they are 12 or so.... your the mom, you know him better then anyone else.... you do what you feel is best.

Oh, that's adorable! And I wouldn't worry about it too much. But now I'm very curious.... which of moms children liked to play kissing tag?

It really was too cute! I only know what my husband would do. Tease him, Tease him...tease him relentlessy until he thinks girls are humiliating and is terrified for his buddies to find out. This is what Jason's father did to him and his sisters thought he was terrified of girls right up until the day we got engaged. No one even knew he had a girlfriend until we were engaged, because he was STILL terrified of the teasing. Good luck! Easton is such a cutie, of course she likes him! :)

I feel your concern. It's hard not to get worked up about. This girl was chasing Will around at the pool and I was giving her the devil eye. Good luck to Will ever getting married poor kid, I'm such a mother bear.
